Huskers Fall on Day One Against Air Force

Lincoln, Neb.- The No. 9 Nebraska Rifle team took its second loss of the season against No. 6 Air Force on Saturday with a score of 4,701-4,678.

Sophomore captain Cecelia Ossi placed third overall with an aggregate score of 1,179. She was followed by fellow sophomore Madelynn Erickson in sixth (1,167) and freshman Mackenzie Strauch in eighth (1,162). 

Head Coach Mindy Miles had praise for her team even after the loss.

"Cecelia had a great day in the smallbore, setting another personal best. Mackenzie shot a personal best as well in air rifle. Altogether, there are positives from the day that they team will build off tomorrow. We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete tomorrow."

The Huskers took the top three spots in the smallbore,as Ossi placed first with a 589. It is her personal best for the season. Fifth-year senior Emily Cheramie placed second with a 583 and Erickson placed third with a 582. Strauch placed ninth with a 572.

Four Huskers placed in the top ten in the air rifle: Ossi in sixth (590), Strauch in seventh (590), Kinga Aletto in ninth (587) and Erickson in 10th (585). Strauch's 590 is her personal best on the season.

The Huskers will compete against Air Force again on Sunday starting at 8 a.m. at the Nebraska Rifle Range.
