In its second road match of the season, the Nebraska women's soccer team (0-1-1) fell 2-0 to Michigan State (1-0-1) on Thursday at Schoolcraft College.
The Spartan's Miranda Hart capitalized off an opportunity late in the first half, scoring Michigan State's first goal in the 44th minute. Abby Gardiner added the team's second score in the 66th minute. Danielle Stephan assisted both goals.
Nebraska came out firing in the opening frame, taking seven shots in the first 20 minutes of the match. The Huskers had an early opportunity in the seventh minute when Reagan Raabe took a shot off a Nebraska corner kick, but the Spartan's goalkeeper Lauren Kozal came away with the save.
Both Eleanor Dale and Ashley Zugay landed shots on goal to add to the Huskers' offensive pressure in the first 45 minutes of action as Nebraska took 10 shots to Michigan State's two.
The Huskers added five more shots in the second half to lead the Spartans, 15-6, in shots taken, with six falling on target. Dale led NU with three shots on the day and two on goal. Hannah Young added two shots and one on goal off the bench. Zugay and Raabe also recorded two strikes while six others took shots for Nebraska.
Grace Brown, who recorded a shot for the Huskers, and Makinzie Short, who faced six shots in the match, both played all 90 minutes for NU.
Along with the shot advantage, Nebraska owned a 6-2 lead in corner kicks over Michigan State. The team took four corner kicks in the opening frame while not allowing a Spartan corner until the final 20 minutes.
