Huskers Sign Four to 2022 Roster

The Nebraska men's gymnastics team has added four gymnasts to the 2021 recruiting class head coach Chuck Chmelka announced after receiving national letters of intent from Chris Hiser, Donte McKinney, Joseph Pepe and Travis Wong. 

Chris Hiser, a native of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, will join the Huskers after training at Daggetts Gymnastics. Hiser was a 2020 Winter Cup Challenge competitor and a 2020 Elite Team Cup second team member. Hiser placed third on floor and seventh in the all-around competition at the 2019 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships. In 2018, Hiser placed first in the still rings and 10th in the all-around competition at the Men's Junior Olympic National Championships.

Donte McKinney will join the Huskers in 2022 as a transfer from the University of Minnesota. McKinney has earned five individual titles while competing for the Gophers a well as CGA Rookie-of-the-Week and Specialist-of-the-Week honors. Prior to attending Minnesota, McKinney was a two-time Academic All-American, 2019 Regional Champion and National Runner-Up with Triumph Gymnastics under coach Don Brown. 

Joseph Pepe comes to Nebraska from Peoria, Arizona where he trained at North Valley Gymnastics. Pepe was a competitor at the 2020 Winter Cup Challenge where he placed sixth on parallel bars and seventh on vault and high bar. At the 2019 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships, Pepe placed first on vault, high bar and in the all-around competition, fifth on floor and seventh on parallel bars. 

Travis Wong, a native of Miami, Florida, rounds out the 2021 recruiting class. Wong will join the Huskers after training at the Florida Gymnastics Training Center (FGTC) under coach Jorge Valdes. Wong was a competitor at the 2020 Winter Cup Challenge and a sixth place team finisher at the 2020 Elite Team Cup. Wong competed at the 2019 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships and placed fourth on parallel bars. Wong finished 10th in the all-around competition in the 2017 Men's Junior Olympic National Championships.
