Big Innings Power Team Andrews to Big Win

Team Billie Andrews erased a six-run deficit with back-to-back nine-run innings in an 18-7 win over Team Tristen Edwards Saturday afternoon in the fifth scrimmage of the fall for the Nebraska softball team.

Team Billie Andrews scored its 18 runs on 13 hits. All nine spots in the lineup scored at least once, with eight scoring at least two runs. Eight players had at least one hit and eight drove in at least one run. Team Billie Andrews got multi-hit games from Cam Ybarra, Courtney Wallace, Samantha Owen and Anni Raley. Ybarra went 2-for-4 with a walk, a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, Wallace finished 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs, Owen was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored and Raley was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. Billie Andrews added three RBIs for her team, while Rylie Unzicker drove in a pair of runs.

In the circle, Wallace and Seevers split the innings. Wallace earned the win, allowing one unearned run on just one hit in 4.0 innings. Seevers pitched the other three innings for Team Billie Andrews.

For Team Edwards, the offense produced seven runs on eight hits. Olivia Ferrell went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. She was the only player to produce more than one hit, while Edwards joined Ferrell with two runs scored and Caitlynn Neal, Ally Riley and Abbie Squier each drove in one run.

Neal and Ferrell split the innings in the circle for Team Edwards. Neal pitched the first five innings and allowed all of the runs, four of which were unearned. Ferrell pitched a perfect sixth inning with one strikeout.

In the top of the first inning, Team Edwards loaded the bases with one out when Edwards and Kaylin Kinney were hit by pitches and Ferrell singled. Riley then brought home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to center. A two-out walk loaded the bases again but Team Edwards had to settle for one run as a fly out to right ended the inning.

Team Edwards struck for five more runs in the top of the second to a take a 6-0 lead. MJ Green got the rally started with a one-out single and Edwards followed with another single. Neal then brought home pinch runner Sydney Gray with an RBI single before Ferrell cleared the bases with three-run homer off the scoreboard in left to make it 5-0. Team Edwards added another run when Kinney doubled and scored on an RBI single from Squier.

Trailing 6-0, Team Billie Andrews used four hits and five walks to score nine times in the bottom of the fourth inning and take a 9-6 lead. The inning began with back-to-back walks before the first run scored on a passed ball. Wallace and Owen then hit consecutive RBI doubles to cut the lead to 6-3. Two more walks and a wild pitch gave Team Billie Andrews a fourth run before a Seevers bunt single loaded the bases. A bases-loaded walk brought home the fifth run of the inning before Unizcker ripped a two-run double with a third run scoring on a throwing error as Team Billie Andrews grabbed an 8-6 lead. Ybarra then drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI ground out.

Team Billie Andrews scored nine more times again in the bottom of the fifth to take an 18-6 lead. Raley began the inning with a single before Abbey Newlun walked. Billie Andrews plated the first run of the inning with an RBI single. Following an error, Ybarra produced a bases-loaded RBI single to make it 11-6. Glatter then drew a bases-loaded walk before Wallace followed with a bases-clearing three-run double to push the lead to 15-6. An RBI single from Raley, a run-scoring error and a sacrifice fly from Billie Andrews capped the nine-run inning.

Team Tristen Edwards got one run back in the top of the sixth when Ferrell reached on a two-out single and scored on an error, but that proved to be the final run of the scrimmage.

Nebraska will conclude its fall season on Sunday with the team's sixth intrasquad scrimmage.
