Lincoln, Neb. -- The No. 19 Nebraska women's gymnastics team hosted the No. 16 Missouri Tigers for the 30th Annual Masters Classic. Four Huskers took shares of event titles at the event.
Senior Taylor Houchin won at least a share of three event titles as she scored a 9.925 on vault and a 9.90 on uneven bars and finished the meet with an all-around score of 39.525. Junior Megan Verceles Carr and sophomore Adnerys De Jesus shared the vault title with Houchin with scores of 9.925. Senior Sierra Hassel took home the floor exercise title with a score of 9.95.
Despite strong individual performances from Nebraska, Missouri took the meet by a score of 196.450-195.925. Nebraska's record now stands at 8-4 on the season.
Rotation One
Nebraska opened the Masters Classic on vault and finished the first rotation with a team score of 49.300. Verceles Carr recorded her career-high on vault with a score of 9.925, which was matched by Houchin and De Jesus. Verceles Carr, Houchin and De Jesus shared the vault event title. Junior Anika Dujakovich posted a score of 9.775, while freshman Kylie Piringer scored a 9.75. Junior Makayla Curtis rounded out the Huskers with a 9.70 which was negated.
On bars, Missouri recorded a team score of 48.975. Helen Hu led the Tigers with a score of 9.90 which was enough for a share of the event title, while Megan Porter followed her with a 9.85. All six Missouri gymnasts recorded scores of 9.725 or higher. Nebraska led Missouri 49.300-48.975 after the first rotation.
Rotation Two
The Huskers were on balance beam for the second rotation and recorded a team score of 49.025. Houchin led the way for the Huskers, taking a share of the event title with a score of 9.90. Freshman Clara Colombo recorded an impressive score of 9.825, while De Jesus and Piringer added scores of 9.775. Verceles Carr recorded a 9.75 on the event, while freshman Kathryn Thaler posted a score of 8.875 due to a fall.
On vault, Missouri recorded a team score of 49.325 in the second rotation. Kambrie Brandt and Gabrielle Gottula both recorded scores of 9.90, which led the Tigers. Five of Missouri's six gymnasts recorded scores of 9.80 or higher. Nebraska held the lead over Missouri 98.325-98.300 after the second rotation.
Rotation Three
In the third rotation Nebraska was on balance beam. Senior Sierra Hassel led the way for NU with a score of 9.875, followed by Houchin with a 9.775 and Verceles Carr with a 9.75. Sophomore Kynsee Roby added a score of 9.55. Curtis and De Jesus recorded scores of 9.075 and 8.825 due to falls.
On floor exercise, Missouri was led by Hannah McCrary who posted a score of 9.85 for the Tigers. Every Missouri gymnast recorded scores of 9.75 or higher. The Tigers led Nebraska by a score of 147.425-146.350 heading into the final rotation.
Rotation Four
Nebraska finished the meet on floor exercise for the fourth rotation. Hassel led NU with a score of 9.95, which won her the event title and tied her career-high. Houshin followed closely with a 9.925. Piringer added a score of 9.875 while Johnston recorded a score of 9.85. All six Huskers scored at least a 9.80 on floor and NU finished the rotation with a team score of 49.425.
The Huskers will return to action on Saturday, March 14 when Nebraska takes on Denver in a home dual at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on BTN+.
