Lincoln, Neb -- The No. 14 Nebraska women's gymnastics team (4-2, 3-1 Big Ten) defeated the No. 19 Maryland Terrapins (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center by a score of 196.175-193.575.
Senior Taylor Houchin won the vault, beam and all-around titles, while sophomore Adnerys De Jesus won the bars and floor event titles for Nebraska. The Huskers picked up their third Big Ten Conference victory of the season. NU hosted its Stick It To Cancer Night.
Rotation One
The Huskers opened the meet on vault. Houchin led the way for NU in the first rotation, as she posted a score of 9.90, which won her the event title. Junior Megan Verceles Carr followed closely behind her with a score of 9.85. Sophomore Adnerys De Jesus recorded a score of 9.825, while freshman Kylie Piringer posted a 9.775 for NU. Junior Makayla Curtis and senior Sierra Hassel added scores of 9.70 and 9.65 respectively. The Huskers ended the first rotation with a team score of 49.050.
Maryland started the meet on uneven bars, and finished the first rotation with a score of 47.225. The Terrapins were led by Sanya Glauber, who posted a score of 9.800. Three Maryland gymnasts recorded scores of 9.70 or higher. NU led the Terrapins by a score of 49.055-48.075 after the first rotation.
Rotation Two
On uneven bars, De Jesus led the way for the Huskers with a score of 9.85, which won her the event title. Houchin and Verceles Carr added both added scores of 9.825, while freshman Clara Colombo finished a solid routine for a score of 9.70. Nebraska finished the second rotation with a team score of 48.850.
On vault, Maryland's Alexis Rubio scored a 9.825, which led her team and won her the even title, while Alecia Farina followed closely behind her with a score of 9.80. The Terrapins finished the rotation with a score of 48.900. NU held the lead heading into the third rotation 97.900-96.975.
Rotation Three
On balance beam, Houchin led NU with a score of 9.85 in the third rotation. Hassel added a score of 9.825, while Verceles Carr recorded a score of 9.775. De Jesus and sophomore Kynsee Roby added scores of 9.75, which is Roby's season-high on beam. The Huskers finished the third rotation with a team score of 49.000.
For Maryland, Sabriyya Rouse led the Terrapins with a score of 9.875 on floor exercise. The Terps finished the rotation with a team score of 48.725 on floor. Nebraska held onto the lead by a score of 146.850-145.700 heading into the final rotation.
Rotation Four
The Huskers finished the meet on floor exercise. De Jesus was stellar in the final rotation as she recorded a score of 9.90, which won her the event title and set her career-high. Piringer added a score of 9.875, while Hassel recorded a 9.85. Houchin and Curtis added scores of 9.825. NU finished the rotation with a team score of 49.275.
On balance beam, Maryland closed out the meet with a team score of 47.875. Nebraska won the meet by a score of 196.175-193.575.
Nebraska heads to Minneapolis, Minn. for a meet against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday, Feb. 16. The meet will take place at 7:30 p.m.
