Huskers Win adidas Classic

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team swept both team titles at the adidas Classic on Saturday in front of 1,371 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track. The Huskers collected 16 event titles on their way to sweeping their second straight quad meet of the season. 

The Husker men won with 199 points, defeating Illinois State (117), South Dakota (117) and Kansas City (81).

The Big Red women took home the team title with 181 points, trailed by Illinois State (144), South Dakota (144) and Kansas City (61).

Nebraska's shot putters once again led the charge for the Big Red, with Kristina Insingo and Burger Lambrechts Jr. both winning their events with improved all-time top-10 marks at Nebraska. 

Lambrechts Jr. jumped up to No. 4 in school history with a new personal best of 64-8 (19.71m) to win the event. Kevin Shubert was the runner-up at 58-8 (17.88m), and freshman Cameron Jurgens finished third at 56-3 (17.14m) in his first collegiate meet. On the women's side, Insingo moved up to No. 7 in NU indoor history in the shot put with a winning throw of 53-6 1/4 (16.31m). Jamesha Hardig earned the silver medal with a new indoor personal best of 51-9 3/4 (15.79m). 

James Joycey was victorious in the men's weight throw with a winning toss of 64-8 (19.71m). Ieva Turke won the women's triple jump with a season-best 41-5 3/4 (12.64m), while Ashley McElmurry was third at 39-1 3/4 (11.93m). Alexander Thompson was the champion in the men's triple jump with a mark of 48-5 1/2 (14.77m), and Passmore Mudundulu was the runner-up at 45-9 3/4 (13.96m).

Freshman Darby Thomas picked up a pair of individual titles for the Husker women. She claimed the women's long jump title with a mark of 19-5 1/4 (5.92m), an indoor personal best. Thomas also won the 60-meter dash in 7.60 after setting a personal best of 7.53 in prelims. 

The NU women went 1-2-3 in the long jump, with Zionn Pearson finishing second behind Thomas at 19-1 1/2 (5.83m), and LaQwasia Stepney took third at 18-9 (5.71m). Deja Ingram was the runner-up in the 60 meters behind Thomas, running 7.65.

Omaha North graduate Chris Ramsey took the title in the men's 60 meters with a PR of 6.78, while fellow freshman Lorenzo Paissan ran 6.79 to finish second. Isaiah Hutchinson claimed the 400 meters crown in 47.86, while Dominic Bentil (49.18) finished second.

The Husker men claimed the top five spots in the 200 meters, led by Paissan's winning time of 21.55. Alex Nelson (21.66) and Mason Hericks (21.69) also earned top-three finishes. Deja Ingram won the title in the 200 meters. Her time of 24.83 just edged teammate Kayla Hugg (24.94). 

Emma Bresser won the 600 meters with a PR of 1:33.47, and Michaela Peskova was third, running 1:34.25. Tony Nou was the men's 600-meter winner in 1:19.50. The Huskers went 1-2-3 in the race, as Michael Knowles (1:22.02) and Karson LeComte (1:22.43) finished second and third.

Brent Wetovick won the 800 meters with a personal best of 1:52.27, and Jordan De Spong was just behind him in second at 1:52.96. 

Elsa Forsberg continued her strong senior season with a personal-best winning time of 9:38.37 in the 3,000 meters. Ryan Kennedy was victorious in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:31.79, a new personal best. Sadio Fenner earned third place with a PR of 8:38.88. 

The final win of the day went to the men's 4x400-meter relay squad, which ran a winning time of 3:15.69.

Judi Jones was the runner-up in the women's mile with a new personal best of 4:53.17, while teammate Erika Freyhof was third, also running a PR of 4:55.61. Jones also placed third in the 800 meters (2:20.24). Ryan Martins led the Husker men in the mile race, finishing third with a 10-second personal best of 4:16.11. 

Stepney placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a lifetime best of 8.71, while Luke Siedhoff was the runner-up on the men's side with a time of 7.89. Vincent Ohlman finished third in 8.00. Chelsey Jones (58.14) took second in the 400 meters,

Luke Russell led a 2-3-4 finish for the NU men in the long jump, leaping an indoor personal-best 23-4 1/2 (7.12m). Thompson, the winner in the long jump, was third in the triple jump at 23-2 1/2 (7.07m). 

Lincoln McPhillips set a new personal best in the high jump, 6-8 3/4 (2.05m), to finish third.

One Devaney Center facility record went down on Saturday. South Dakota pole vaulter Chris Nilsen, a three-time NCAA champion, broke his own Devaney Center record in the pole vault, clearing 19-0 3/4 (5.81m). 

The Huskers will continue their homestand at the Devaney Center next Friday and Saturday with the 45th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. Multi-events begin at Noon on Friday, followed by field events at 4:30 p.m. and running events at 6 p.m. The meet will conclude on Saturday with multi-events beginning at 9:30 a.m., and both running and field events commencing at 11:30 a.m.
