East Lansing, Mich. -- The No. 16 Nebraska women's gymnastics team (3-1, 2-0 Big Ten) defeated the Michigan State Spartans (2-3, 1-1 Big Ten) at the Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Mich. The Huskers won the meet by a score of 197.100-196.550.
Nebraska set a season-high team score of 197.100 and also set event high-scores on vault, bars and balance beam. Sophomore Adnerys De Jesus won the all-around title with a score of 39.450 and shared the vault title with junior Anika Dujakovich as both recorded career-high scores of 9.95. Junior Megan Verceles Carr won the balance beam title with a career-high score of 9.95.
Rotation One
NU opened the meet on uneven bars. Verceles Carr and Houchin led the Huskers, as both recorded scores of 9.875. Freshman Kathryn Thaler recorded a score of 9.85, while fellow freshman Clara Colombo and De Jesus both posted scores of 9.825. Freshman Kylie Piringer rounded out Nebraska with a score of 9.775. Nebraska finished the rotation with a season-high team score on bars of 49.250.
Michigan State started the meet on vault, and finished the first rotation with a score of 48.875. The Spartans were led by Gabriella Douglas and Lea Mitchell, who both posted scores of 9.825. MSU trailed Nebraska by a score of 49.250-48.875 after the first rotation.
Rotation Two
On vault, Nebraska set a season-high team score of 49.400. Dujakovich and De Jesus shared the event title, as both recorded career-high scores of 9.95 during the second rotation. Houchin followed closely with a score of 9.925. Senior Sierra Hassel added a score of 9.80 and Piringer recorded a 9.775 on the event. Redshirt sophomore Kynsee Roby made her season debut with a score of 9.60 on vault.
On bars, MSU's Jori Jackard scored a 9.90, which led her team and won the event title. The Spartans finished the rotation with a score of 49.075. Nebraska held a 98.650-97.950 lead over Michigan State.
Rotation Three
On floor, Hassel led the way for Nebraska with a score of 9.90. Piringer followed closely with a score of 9.875. Dujakovich and De Jesus both recorded scores of 9.825. Junior Makayla Curtis and Houchin rounded out the rotation for the Huskers with scores of 9.75 and 9.70 respectively. NU finished the third rotation with a floor team score of 49.175.
For MSU, Gabriella Douglas led the Spartans with a score of 9.875 on beam. Michigan State finished the rotation with a score of 49.125 on beam. The Huskers held a lead of 147.825-147.075 heading into the final rotation.
Rotation Four
The Huskers finished the meet on balance beam. Verceles Carr led the Huskers with a score of 9.95 in the final rotation to win the event title. Curtis recorded her career-high on beam with a score of 9.90. De Jesus and Hassel added scores of 9.85. Nebraska finished the final rotation with a beam score of 49.275. Nebraska defeated the Spartans by a final score of 197.100-196.550
De Jesus won her second consecutive all-around title with a career-high score of 39.450. Houchin also competed in the all-around for Nebraska.
Nebraska returns to the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Jan. 30 for a Big Ten matchup with Michigan. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
