Huskers in Fifth Place Heading into Mizzou Invite Day Three

The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished its second day in Columbia, Missouri at the Mizzou Invite on Wednesday. The Huskers concluded a jam-packed day full of preliminary races and finals by sending eleven swimmers and a diver to the finals, where the team scored 123 points and sits in fifth place out of 13 other teams.

To start off the Husker's night, Sophomore Sara Troyer dazzled on the diving board. She topped her preliminary score and received a runner-up spot (319.10) in the three meter dive, finishing in second out of eight in the A-Final of the contest.

Junior Autumn Haebig followed up on her teammate's success and raced to a second place finish (4:44.03) in the A-Final of the 500 yard freestyle. She topped her time from the prelims by over a second, an impressive increase on the stopwatch. Following Haebig's lead in the 500 freestyle was sophomore's Katelyn Kilpatrick and Maggie Berning, and freshman Molly Rosenthal. Kilpatrick finished in 11th place (4:53.28) for the Huskers, good for third in the B-Final. Rosenthal landed in 18th (4:52.23), which was good for second in the C-Final, while Berning swam to a 22nd place (4:58.80) finish.

In the 200 IM, Senior Tori Beeler finished in fifth place (2:00.01) of the A-Final, also topping her preliminary score in a very close margin. Junior teammate Madison Coughlen followed up Beeler with a solid performance, finishing in 17th (2:02.91) and winning the C-Final heat. Freshman Berkeley Livingston also landed in a respectable spot, finishing in 27th (2:05.22) place.

The 100 yard butterfly was another success for the Huskers as Izzie Murray helped round out the individual races, finishing in eighth place (56.13). Two more Huskers finished in the C-Final of the 100 butterfly with Kaitlyn Barth landing in 20th (55.89) and Lindsey Stalheim finishing in 23rd (56.27). Kim Lanaghen was also not too far behind her teammates, swimming to a 25th place finish (56.42) and winning the D-Final of the race.

In relay action for the Huskers, the swimmers teamed up to finish in respectable spots for each race. To start with the 400 yard medley, the Nebraska A relay team featuring Haebig, Worlton, Coughlin and Gonzalez splashed to a 7th place finish (3:43.98). The Nebraska B relay team followed up with a solid performance from Stalheim, Beeler, Murray and Savitt, which was good for 16th place (3:49.66).

In the 200 freestyle relay, the Husker swimmers again finished with a good performance. The Nebraska A relay team led by Beeler, Stalheim, Savitt, and Haebig raced to a ninth place finish (1:33.77), while the Nebraska B relay featuring Gonzalez, Marvin, Lanaghen, and Barth finished only five spots behind, good for 14th place (1:36.03).
