Huskers Come Up Short Against No. 24 Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Nebraska soccer team (3-8-2, 2-4-0 Big Ten) concluded its weekend trip with a 4-1 loss to No. 24 Michigan at U-M Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers outshot the Wolverines (9-3-1, 4-1-1 Big Ten) by a 14-12 margin and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but Michigan scored two goals in each half behind an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal for the game.

Michigan scored its first goal of the game in the 23rd minute when a corner kick found Samantha DeVecchi at the top of the box. She fed a pass inside, which Meredith Haakenson shot to the bottom right corner of the net. The Wolverines extended their lead to 2-0 when Nicki Hernandez scored off an assist from Sarah Stratigakis.

Nebraska trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a goal in the 51st minute. Theresa Pujado rebounded the ball after a diving save by the Michigan goalkeeper and fired a shot into the back of the net. It marks Pujado's first goal of the season and third goal of her career.

Michigan added goals in the 76th and 78th minutes to put the game out of reach for the Big Red. Sura Yekka netted the first one before Kierra Krawec scored on the second one.

Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder matched her season high with seven saves against the Wolverines. She also collected seven saves on Thursday night at Iowa.

The Huskers return home next weekend to host Maryland (Friday at 7:05 p.m.) and Rutgers (Sunday at 1:05 p.m.) at Hibner Stadium. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-800-8 BIG RED or by visiting Huskers.com/tickets.
