Huskers Fall to Hawkeyes, 1-0

Iowa City, Iowa – The Nebraska soccer team (3-7-2, 2-3-0 Big Ten) came up short against Iowa, 1-0, at UI Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

The Hawkeyes (11-2-0, 3-2-0 Big Ten) and the Huskers played a scoreless first half, but Iowa's Gianna Gourley broke the tie with the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. The Hawkeyes' Isabella Blackman passed to Gourley, who slipped past the NU defender on the left side of the box and shot to the right corner of the net.

At halftime, Nebraska held a 5-4 edge in shots and a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Hawks controlled offensively most of the second half, outshooting NU by a 9-4 margin and had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. For the game, nine of Iowa's 13 shots were on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, making her school-record 74th career start, earned a season-high seven saves to extend her career total to 224. She was one of six Huskers to play the full 90 minutes on Thursday night.

Sinclaire Miramontez, Kenzie Coons, Olivia Brown, Brenna Ochoa and Meg Brandt also played the complete game. Brandt managed one of NU's two shots on goal, along with Emma Marcus, who played 23 minutes.

The Huskers continue their weekend trip by squaring off with No. 24 Michigan on Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich. Kickoff is set for noon (CT) from U-M Soccer Stadium.
