Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (4-8-3, 3-4-1 Big Ten) completed a four-point conference weekend with a 1-1 draw against No. 21 Rutgers at Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers earned three points on Friday for their 2-0 win over Maryland and one point for the tie against Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights pounced early on Sunday, as Amirah Ali scored her team-high eighth goal of the season in the second minute. NU responded in the 34th minute when Grace Brown struck a crossing pass to Savanah Uveges, who headed it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Uveges, who made her first appearance in seven games dating back to Sept. 15, played 67 minutes on Sunday against Rutgers. The goal marked the 11th of her career.
The two teams played a scoreless second half before a pair of overtime periods. In the two overtimes, Rutgers held a 4-0 edge in shots, contributing to the Scarlet Knights' 9-4 advantage in shots for the duration of the game. NU took eight corner kicks for the match, compared to Rutgers' five.
Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, who played the full 110 minutes, recorded two saves. She has 235 career saves, five shy of moving into second place on Nebraska's goalkeeper saves list, ahead of Erin Miller (239).
Rutgers entered the weekend with an RPI of 24 and sat in fourth place in the Big Ten standings. The Scarlet Knights conclude the weekend with a 10-2-2 record overall and a 4-2-1 mark in Big Ten play.
As was the case in each of the first four meetings in series history dating back to 2014, this year's Nebraska-Rutgers match ended in a tie.
The Huskers hit the road next week for match-ups against Minnesota and Wisconsin. NU faces the Golden Gophers on Thursday, starting at 4 p.m. (CT), on ESPNU.
