Huskers Conclude Trip with Loss at No. 4 USC

Los Angeles, Calif. – Two days after its first win of the season, Nebraska (1-3-1) finished its weekend trip with a 2-0 loss to No. 4 USC (6-0) at McAlister Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans scored their first goal in the 39th minute when Penelope Hocking found the back of the net to give USC a 1-0 lead at halftime. Hocking also scored USC's second goal in the 53rd minute. Tara McKeown recorded assists on both goals.

Nebraska managed 13 shots during the match, six of which were on goal. Senior Meg Brandt, who played the full 90 minutes, led the Huskers with five shots on goal individually. Dakota Chan recorded NU's other shot on goal, as she played 76 minutes on Sunday.

Brandt was one of three Huskers to play the entire match, along with Brenna Ochoa and goalkeeper Aubrei Corder. Corder earned a season-high five saves to increase her career total to 200 saves. She is the fourth goalkeeper in program history to reach the 200-save milestone, along with Emma Stevens (278), Erin Miller (239) and Karina LeBlanc (206).

NU's match against the Trojans concludes a season-opening five-match streak against 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifiers for the Huskers. Last season, USC advanced to the third round of the tournament after finishing third in the Pac-12. In addition, four of Nebraska's five opponents this season have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll at some point in 2019.

The Huskers return home to host Oklahoma (Friday at 7:05 p.m.) and Gonzaga (Sunday at 1:05 p.m.) at Hibner Stadium next weekend.
