Huskers Surge Past Long Beach State, 2-1

Long Beach, Calif. – The Nebraska soccer team (1-2-1) picked up its first win of the season with a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Long Beach State at George Allen Field on Friday night.

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, the Beach struck first with a goal in the 55th minute. Kaylee Ramirez scored on a penalty kick after Nebraska committed a foul in the box.

The Huskers responded in the 66th minute when Dakota Chan netted her first career goal to tie the game at 1-1. Olivia Brown, who played the full 90 minutes, found Chan, who juked past the Beach defender and struck a shot past the goalkeeper.

In the 76th minute, Sinclaire Miramontez scored the game-winning goal when she gathered Brenna Ochoa's corner kick and fired a shot into the net. It marked the second goal of the season and fifth career goal for Miramontez, a senior defender who was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List before the season.

Nebraska's offense outshot Long Beach State by a 19-6 margin, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Both were season highs for the Big Red. NU also took six corner kicks, compared to three taken by Long Beach State.

Goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, who played the full 90 minutes, earned her 30th career win at Nebraska. She passed Emma Stevens for second place on Nebraska's career goalkeeper minutes played list on Friday night. Corder has now played 6,284 career minutes. Corder collected two saves against LBSU, increasing her career total to 195.

The Huskers conclude their trip to California on Sunday when they face No. 4 USC in Los Angeles, starting at 2 p.m. (CT).
