Huskers Top Hoosiers to Earn Weekend Split

Bloomington, Ind.  – The Nebraska soccer team (2-5-2, 1-1-0 Big Ten) concluded its weekend trip by shutting out Indiana, 2-0, at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers scored one goal in each half to put away the Hoosiers, who fall to 4-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Big Ten. In the 13th minute, sophomore Dakota Chan stole the ball from the IU goalkeeper and slipped her shot into the back of the net to give NU the lead. It marked her second goal of the season to go along with her score at Long Beach State on Sept. 6.

In the 81st minute, Adriana Maldonado scored her first career goal when she fired a shot over the Indiana keeper from the left side of the box. Chan assisted the goal. NU's two-goal output matches its highest in a game this season, along with the two-goal effort at Long Beach State on Sept. 6.

Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder preserved her 25th career complete-game shutout to move into second place on NU's career shutouts list. Corder, who already holds the school record for minutes played by a goalkeeper and games started by a goalkeeper, recorded three saves on the afternoon in 90 minutes of play.

The Husker offense held a 7-2 advantage in shots at halftime before Indiana applied the pressure in the second half with a 9-3 edge in shots. Each team took five corner kicks for the game.

With the win, NU takes an 8-1-1 advantage in the all-time series against Indiana, dating back to the first meeting between the schools in 2010.

The Huskers return to action this week at home when they host Northwestern on Thursday at Hibner Stadium. The match, set to be televised on the Big Ten Network, will kick off at 6 p.m. (CT). Next Sunday, Nebraska hosts Illinois at 1:05 p.m.
