Huskers Come Up Short in Big Ten Opener at Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. – The Nebraska soccer team (1-5-2, 0-1-0 Big Ten) fell to Purdue, 1-0, in the Big Ten opener for both teams at Folk Field on Friday night.

The two teams each took eight shots for the game. Purdue held a 5-1 advantage in the first half before NU responded by outshooting the Boilermakers by a 7-3 margin in the second half. NU also held the advantage in corner kicks at 4-3.

In the 37th minute, Purdue scored its lone goal of the night when Leanna Rebimbas found the back of the net. The Boilermakers improve to 5-2-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in the Big Ten.

Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder was one of five Huskers to play the full 90 minutes on Friday night. Corder was making her 70th career start to pass Karina LeBlanc and Emma Stevens for sole possession of the school record for career starts by a goalkeeper. Corder, who already holds the program record for goalkeeper minutes played, tallied three saves against Purdue to extend her career total to 209 and put herself in third place alone on NU's chart.

Sinclaire Miramontez, Meg Brandt, Brenna Ochoa and Ashley Zugay also played the complete game in West Lafayette. Miramontez led the Huskers with two shots. The lone shot on goal for the Big Red was taken by Kathleen Aitchison.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday when they visit Indiana, starting at noon (CT). The Hoosiers are 4-4-0 with an 0-1-0 mark in Big Ten play.
