Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (1-4-2) concluded its final weekend of non-conference action with a 2-1 loss to Gonzaga (6-2) at Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskers struck first with a goal in the 21st minute, as senior Savanah Uveges converted a penalty kick after Marissa Popoola was fouled in the box. It marked the first goal of the season for Uveges and 10th of her career at Nebraska.
Gonzaga tied the game in the 29th minute when India Jencks drove past the Husker defense and slipped her shot into the bottom right corner. The Bulldogs took the lead for good five minutes later when Sophia Viviano rebounded a saved shot and scored on the second effort.
Nebraska produced multiple opportunities to equalize the game, outshooting the Zags by an 8-5 margin for the match, including a 3-1 edge in the second half. The two teams each managed six corner kicks, with NU holding a 5-1 advantage in the first half before Gonzaga matched that margin in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, making her 69th career start, tied the school record in that regard with Karina LeBlanc and Emma Stevens. Corder collected two saves in 90 minutes of action. She was one of two Huskers to play the full time on Sunday, along with senior Meg Brandt. Corder has 206 career saves, tied for third in program history with LeBlanc.
