Huskers Drop Home Opener to Clemson

Lincoln, Neb. – Despite outshooting Clemson, the Nebraska soccer team (0-2) fell to the Tigers, 2-0, in its home opener at Hibner Stadium on Friday night. Tied 0-0 at halftime, Clemson (3-0) scored both of its goals in the second half.

NU went on the attack early, outshooting the Tigers in the first half by a 7-3 margin. For the game, the Huskers outshot Clemson, 13-9, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Clemson goalkeeper Hannah McLaughlin kept NU from scoring, as Clemson continued its season-opening shutout streak to three games.

In the 64th minute, Clemson struck first when Harper White scored off a double assist following a corner kick. The Tigers scored their second goal in the 85th minute when Caroline Conti found the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder was one of five Huskers to play the full 90 minutes. She earned three saves to increase her career total to 192. In addition, Corder became the third Husker goalkeeper in program history to surpass 6,000 career minutes played.

Seniors Sinclaire Miramontez and Meg Brandt, who both played the full 90 minutes, each led the Husker offense with three shots apiece. They each registered a pair of shots on goal, which was also a team high on Friday night.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday night when they host No. 21 Baylor at Hibner Stadium. The match, set for 7:05 p.m. (CT), will feature a schedule magnet giveaway for the first 750 fans. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Huskers.com/tickets.
