Fayetteville, Ark. – The Nebraska soccer team tied Arkansas, 0-0, in its second and final exhibition match of the season at Razorback Field on Thursday night. The match spanned 90 minutes, as no overtime period was played.
Sixteen Huskers saw the field during NU’s final tune-up before the regular season. Three Huskers played the full 90 minutes - Aubrei Corder, Brenna Ochoa and Meg Brandt. Corder, a senior goalkeeper, managed three saves and contributed to Nebraska’s second shutout of the exhibition slate. She played 75 minutes in NU’s 4-0 win over Omaha on Saturday night at Hibner Stadium.
Ochoa and Brandt each registered a shot for the Big Red. As a team, Nebraska managed three shots, with newcomer Emma Marcus notching one shot during her 35 minutes of action.
For the match, the Razorbacks held a 9-3 advantage in shots, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal, over the Huskers. Arkansas used three goalkeepers and had 22 players altogether see the field on Thursday night.
The Razorbacks returned 18 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which qualified for the NCAA Tournament after tying for third in the SEC. Arkansas is receiving votes in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, equivalent to the No. 29 spot in the rankings.
In the first half, the two teams were held scoreless with zero shots on goal. Arkansas held a 3-2 edge in shots, while NU took the lone corner kick.
The Huskers open their regular season next week when they visit Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas on Thursday at 7 p.m. (CT). NU’s home opener is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30 against Clemson at Hibner Stadium, starting at 7:05 p.m.
