Akron, Ohio – The Nebraska rifle team finished in second place after the conclusion of air rifle competition at the GARC Championships. The Huskers finished with a total air rifle score of 2,347, bringing their aggregate score to 4,666. The effort is tied for Nebraska’s second-highest aggregate score of the season.
Emily Cheramie was out front for Nebraska with 589. Samantha Peterson, Hannah Virga and Nina Radulovic all brought in 586 to assemble a consistent Husker effort. Kinga Aletto rounded out NU with 580. While not squadded, Elena Flake led the team with a personal-best score of 591.
Nebraska finished behind West Virginia (4,715). The first-place finish brought the Mountaineers their tenth conference title in a row. Defending champion Kentucky brought in third behind Nebraska with 4,663. Akron (4,655) took fourth, Navy (4,652) took fifth and Ole Miss (4,648) finished in sixth. Army (4,647) finished in seventh. Memphis came in eighth with 4,643 and NC State finished ninth with 4,622.
This match concluded the 2018-19 season for the Huskers. Hannah Virga is the exception, having been selected to attend the NCAA Championships in Morgantown, W. Va. Virga will compete as an individual in the air rifle discipline on Mar. 9. Match action is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. CT.
