NU Falls to Florida Atlantic, Louisiana

Tallahassee, Fla. — The Nebraska men's tennis team (0-2, 0-0 Big Ten) dropped a pair of matches to Florida Atlantic (2-0, 0-0 C-USA) and Louisiana (1-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) -- both by 4-2 -- at the Florida State Spring Invitational on Saturday in Tallahassee. The Huskers will fight for seventh place against Florida A&M or New Orleans on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET).

NU started the day dueling the FAU Owls in the tournament's opening round, as sophomore Alvaro Moreno Lozano and freshman William Gleason knocked off Thomas Guy/A. Fernandez Horta, 6-3 at the No. 3 doubles spot.

Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia then fell just short to Jason Legall/Ignacio Garcia, 7-6 (3) at No. 1, while junior Chris Dean and sophomore Isaac Nortey lost a tough one at No. 2 to Kirac Bekisoglu/Gabriel Sidney, 6-3 to give Florida Atlantic the doubles point.

Boyer and freshman Victor Moreno Lozano collected Nebraska's two singles wins of the match. The senior from Ham Lake, Minn., defeated Kirac Bekisoglu in straight sets at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4. Victor Moreno, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, earned his first college dual season win over Gabriel Sidney, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

The Owls notched wins at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 position to close out the 4-2 victory.

Later on, Nebraska took on Louisiana in the consolation semifinals. The Ragin' Cajuns earned the doubles point after a pair of wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.

Boyer and Victor Moreno again clinched two singles wins for Nebraska at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. Boyer overcame Pearse Dolan, 6-3, 7-6 (7), while Victor Moreno pulled a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win over Arthur Libaud.

Louisiana beat Nebraska at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 4-2 win.
