Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Junior Chris Dean and sophomore Isaac Nortey fell just short of winning the doubles Flight B on Saturday, concluding Nebraska's participation at the Big Ten Individual Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Dean and Nortey lost a tough 8-4 contest to Joe Tyler/Piotr Smietana (Iowa) in the final match after knocking off Patrick Fletchall/Pyam Ahmadi (Indiana), 8-6 in the semis.
NU wrapped up the tournament with a total of four wins -- two in singles and two in doubles. Nortey advanced to a 4-2 doubles record on the fall season, while Dean improved to 2-5. Nortey only trails senior Toby Boyer, who leads the team with a 6-2 doubles mark.
In singles consolation play, Nortey earned a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Billy Shisler of Michigan State. Dean, Gleason and Moreno also competed in other consolation matches. In the doubles Flight C, freshman William Gleason and junior Alvaro Moreno Lozano fell to Jonas Larson/Nikita Snezhko (Iowa), 8-2.
The Huskers finish off their fall season next weekend at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis. The tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota will run from Nov. 2-4.
