NU Heads to Big Ten Championships

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend to compete at the Big Ten Individual Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan. The tournament will take place at the Varsity Tennis Center, and will run from Oct. 26-28. 

Junior Chris Dean, sophomore Isaac Nortey, and freshmen William Gleason and Alvaro Moreno Lozano will represent the Huskers in Michigan.

The tournament starts Friday morning with a round of doubles and two rounds of singles. In doubles competition, Dean/Nortey will play Sweet/Nuzhny (Wisconsin) in Flight B at 7 a.m. CT, while Gleason/Moreno earned a first round bye in Flight C. In the singles round of 64, Dean will face Billy Shisler (Michigan State) at 9 a.m. CT. Gleason, Moreno and Nortey earned byes and will automatically advance to the round of 32.

The Big Ten Championships will feature over 40 players from 10 different Big Ten schools, with a main singles and doubles draw as well as consolation draws for each. Nebraska will join Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin at the event. No team scores will be kept.

Nebraska comes off a successful weekend at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia reached the doubles semifinials, while Klousia and freshman Victor Moreno Lozano reached the singles round of 32. Boyer, Dean and Gleason made it to the round of 64. The Huskers collected a total of 10 singles wins and 4 doubles wins at the tournament.
