Boyer, Klousia Advance in Doubles at ITA Regionals

Tulsa, Okla. -- Senior Toby Boyer and junior Micah Klousia advanced to the doubles quarterfinals on Friday at the ITA Central Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Boyer and Klousia started off the day with a thrilling tiebreaker upset over No. 1 Oscar Mesquida/Adam Sanjurjo (Arkansas), 8-7 (5) in the round of 32. After defeating the tournament's highest-seeded pair, Boyer/Klousia knocked off their in-state rivals in the round of 16.

The Husker duo beat Creighton's Stratton Brown/Mac Mease, 8-6, to earn a spot among the event's eight-best. Boyer and Klousia are set to play Boriss Kamdem/Tom Thelwall-Jones (Tulsa) in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.

In the singles round of 32, freshman Victor Moreno Lozano played a hard-fought match against No. 7 Jake Van Emburgh (Oklahoma), but fell short, 7-5, 6-1. Klousia dropped a tough 6-3, 6-2 contest to No. 15 Matej Vocel (Oklahoma State), also in the round of 32. The two losses conclude Nebraska's participation in singles play at the Regionals.

The tournament continues Saturday with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles -- first serve is at 10 a.m. CT. Out-of-bracket consolation matches will also be played tomorrow.
