Fairbanks, Alaska – The Nebraska rifle team fell short to the top-ranked Alaska Nanooks today with a final score of 4,662-4,693.
The Huskers shot well in smallbore, capturing three of the top five places as individuals. Although not squadded, Bailey Powell led the way for NU with a personal-best score of 581. Samantha Peterson and Emily Cheramie were close behind with 580 and 579, respectively. Kayla Gadeken (575), Rachel Yager (573) and Elizabeth Lorentz (569) rounded out the Huskers. Nebraska’s final team score was 2,307.
NU’s air rifle performance was highlighted by a pair of 590 scores from Elizabeth Lorentz and Samantha Peterson. The mark was a career high for Lorentz. Kayla Gadeken brought in 589. Emily Cheramie and Bailey Powell added consistency for the Huskers with 586 and 584, respectively. Nebraska’s final team score was 2,355.
Alaska brought in a smallbore team score of 2,319. Kellen McAferty led the way for the Nanooks with 587, followed by JT Schnering (579). Schnering fired 597 to lead the field in air rifle and contribute to Alaska’s overall team score of 2,374.
The Huskers will take the range again next week on Oct. 21 when they travel to Morgantown, W. Va. to face the West Virginia Mountaineers. Match action will begin at 7 a.m. Fans can follow the action on social media.
