Huskers Tie Wolverines, 1-1

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (8-4-4, 4-1-3 Big Ten) played Michigan (7-7-1, 3-4-1 Big Ten) to a 1-1 draw in front of 1,188 fans at Hibner Stadium on Friday night.

The Huskers, who entered the weekend in fourth place in the Big Ten, earned one point for the tie. NU’s 15-point total in conference play is tied for third with Wisconsin. The Huskers and Badgers are each three points shy of Rutgers and Penn State for first place in the Big Ten.

Michigan struck first when Reilly Martin found the back of the net off an assist from Nicki Hernandez in the seventh minute. The goal was Martin’s sixth of the season. Despite outshooting the Wolverines in the first half, 6-3, the Huskers went into halftime trailing by a 1-0 margin.

Nebraska came out firing in the second half and once again outshot Michigan, this time by a 7-2 tally. With 41 seconds remaining in regulation, Sinclaire Miramontez buried the equalizer for her second goal of the season.

Brenna Ochoa’s free kick near the corner bounced around the goalie box before an attempt to clear it was gathered by Miramontez, who fired her shot into the back of the net.

During the two overtime periods, Michigan outshot Nebraska by a 4-2 margin, but neither team scored. For the game, Nebraska held the advantage in shots (15-9), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (4-2).

Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder played all 110 minutes for the Big Red and recorded three saves.

The Huskers host Michigan State on Sunday at Hibner Stadium at 1:05 p.m. (CT).
