Huskers Drop 3-1 Decision at No. 14 Duke

Durham, N.C. – The Nebraska soccer team (3-3-1) led 1-0 at halftime, but No. 14 Duke responded with three goals in the second half en route to a 3-1 win at Koskinen Stadium on Thursday night.

Senior Faith Carter scored for the Huskers in the 33rd minute on a header in the box off assists from Savanah Uveges and Michaela Loebel. It marked Carter’s second goal of the season. Uveges, who leads the Huskers in points this season, recorded her third assist of the 2018 campaign.

Shots were tied at 4-4 heading into halftime, but the Big Red held the advantage on the scoreboard over the Blue Devils. Duke tied it in the 59th minute when Tess Boade found the back of the net off assists from Kayla McCoy and Delaney Graham.

A pair of Nebraska fouls in the box allowed Duke two penalty kick opportunities in the second half. Karlie Paschall converted both of them, scoring in the 63rd and 83rd minutes to give the Blue Devils the lead for good. Duke held a 7-6 advantage in shots in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder recorded two saves in 90 minutes of action. Corder, who has 142 career saves, passed Rebecca Hornbacher (141) for sixth place on Nebraska’s career saves list. Corder was one of five Huskers play the full 90 minutes, along with Sinclaire Miramontez, Grace Brown, Brenna Ochoa and Meg Brandt.

Duke, a 2017 NCAA College Cup participant, improves to 5-1-1 this season.
