Columbus, Ohio – The Nebraska soccer team (8-3-3, 4-0-2 Big Ten) extended its unbeaten streak to seven consecutive games with its 1-1 tie against Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In Nebraska’s last seven games dating back to Sept. 9, the Huskers have five wins and two ties, including a 1-0 win at 24th-ranked Penn State on Thursday night. NU remains atop the Big Ten standings with 14 points in conference play (three points for a win, one point for a tie).
The Huskers struck first on Sunday when senior Faith Carter netted her team-high eighth goal of the season in the 25th minute. Carter, who has 17 points this season (two points for a goal, one point for an assist), stole the ball from the Ohio State defender and slipped past the Buckeye goalkeeper before firing a shot to an open net. Carter is tied for first in the conference in goals scored this season and ranks in the top five of the league in points.
Nebraska held a 1-0 lead at halftime, outshooting the Buckeyes by a 5-2 margin during the opening 45-minute period. In the second half, the Huskers outshot OSU by an 11-4 tally, but Ohio State found the back of the net for the equalizer.
In the 57th minute, NU escaped a barrage of Buckeye shots when junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder made a save before Grace Brown saved an Ohio State shot during the same exchange. Less than a minute later, Ohio State’s Izzy Rodriguez curved her corner kick into the goal to tie the game. Corder, who played all 110 minutes, recorded three saves on the afternoon.
Ohio State, who entered the day on a three-match winning streak, holds a 6-4-1 record overall with a 3-1-1 mark in Big Ten play following this weekend’s action.
