Huskers Fall to Baylor

Waco, Texas – The Nebraska soccer team (3-2-1) suffered its second loss of the weekend, falling to Baylor, 6-0, at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field on Sunday night.

Baylor, who was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll equivalent to the No. 27 ranking, improves to 4-2 this season. The Bears scored four goals in the first half and added two goals in the second half.

Nebraska managed eight shots, including five shots on goal. Faith Carter and Elyse Huber led the Husker offense with two shots apiece, while four other Huskers each registered one shot. Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder allowed five goals in the first 75 minutes before Mayte Corral came in for the final 15 minutes.

Baylor’s Sarah King got Baylor’s offense going in the 10th minute with her first goal of the season. In the 14th minute, Julie James scored to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage. Baylor scored its third and fourth goals in a 20-second span, bettering its own Nebraska opponent record for shortest span between goals, which was 36 seconds in the 2003 contest.

James scored her second goal of the night in the 49th minute. Jackie Crowther added her second goal against the Huskers in the 79th minute.

Multiple Nebraska opponent single-game records were matched, including goals (tied four previous occasions) and margin of defeat (tied two previous occasions).

The Huskers finish non-conference play this week on the road against two ACC teams. NU faces Duke on Thursday before battling NC State on Sunday.
