Huskers Shut Out No. 24 Penn State, 1-0

University Park, Pa. – The Nebraska soccer team (8-3-2, 4-0-1 Big Ten) remained atop the Big Ten standings after knocking off 24th-ranked Penn State, 1-0, at Jeffrey Field on Thursday night.

NU’s win extends its unbeaten streak to six consecutive games (five wins and one tie), dating back to Sept. 9. The Huskers, ranked 18th in the RPI, have won four consecutive games, each by one goal. Penn State (6-5-0, 2-2-0 Big Ten) was shut out at home for the first time since 2016. In addition, NU defeats PSU on the road for the first time since the Huskers joined the Big Ten in 2011.

In the 24th minute, the Nittany Lions had a handball, which gave senior Savanah Uveges a penalty-kick opportunity. She found the back of the net to give NU the 1-0 edge it would keep for the rest of the contest.

Uveges is 4-for-4 on penalty kicks this season and recorded her seventh goal in 2018, tying her for the most on the team with senior Faith Carter. In addition to sharing the team high in goals scored this season, Uveges and Carter are tied for first in goals scored in the Big Ten.

Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned her 21st career complete-game shutout, as the Husker defense held an opponent scoreless for the fourth time this season. NU’s effort came against a relentless Penn State attack that saw the Nittany Lions take 16 shots, including 12 shots in the second half.

Corder passes Erin Miller (2000-02) for the third-most career shutouts by a Husker goalkeeper. Corder collected a career-high nine saves against the Nittany Lions, bettering her previous single-game high (7), which she tallied three times in 2016.

Corder was one of six Huskers to play the full 90 minutes, along with Sinclaire Miramontez, Kenzie Coons, Grace Brown, Brenna Ochoa and Meg Brandt. Uveges led NU’s offense with four shots (two shots on goal), as the Huskers recorded nine shots in all.
