The Nebraska rifle team sits in seventh on the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Preseason Poll.
The Huskers finished eighth nationally last year at the 2018 NCAA Championships in Charleston, S.C. Among those returning to the team this year are seniors Nina Radulovic, Hannah Virga and Rachel Yager. Joining them are four juniors and three sophomores. Three freshmen and one junior transfer are new to the team in 2018-19.
Head coach Ashley MacAllister, assisted by Rick Johnson, looks to lead the team back to the NCAA Championships for a seventh consecutive year in 2019 after breaking the school record in 2018 with Nebraska’s sixth straight appearance.
West Virginia took first in the poll, with TCU in second and defending champion Kentucky is in third. Murray State is ranked fourth, Ohio State is ranked fifth, Air Force is ranked sixth, and Alaska is in the eighth spot to round out the top eight teams in the poll.
Nearly all of the Huskers’ opponents this season are ranked in the Top 20, including three (West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio State) in the top five.
NU kicks off the 2018-19 season on Oct. 6 with a home match against Kentucky. The match is set to begin at 8 a.m. and will take place at the Nebraska Rifle Range. Check huskers.com for more information.
