Huskers Shut Out Purdue, Sweep Home Weekend

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (7-3-2, 3-0-1 Big Ten) extended its unbeaten streak to five consecutive games with a 1-0 win over Purdue at Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers, atop the Big Ten standings with 10 points (three points for a win, one point for a tie), continued its momentum against the Boilermakers after a come-from-behind win over Indiana on Thursday night.

In the 14th minute, senior Savanah Uveges scored her sixth goal of the season to give NU a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. Brenna Ochoa passed to Meg Brandt, who found Uveges on the right side, to fire a shot into the back of the net. With her goal, Uveges retakes the team lead in points (16) after Faith Carter (15 points) took the lead on Thursday night with a hat trick against the Hoosiers.

Nebraska’s defense held strong on Sunday, as the Boilermakers outshot the Big Red by an 8-6 margin, but both of Purdue’s shots on goal were saved. Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned one of the saves, while Grace Brown saved another one of Purdue’s close chances.

Corder’s save marked the 157th of her career, putting her in fourth place alone on NU’s career saves list. She passed Jamie Klages, who collected 156 career saves from 2003 to 2004. Corder, who played all 90 minutes on Sunday, tallied her 20th career complete-game shutout, which ranks fourth in program history.

The Huskers hit the road next week when they visit Penn State (Thursday at 5 p.m.) on Big Ten Network and Ohio State (Sunday at 1:30 p.m.).
