Huskers Top Terps in Overtime, 2-1

College Park, Md. – The Nebraska soccer team (5-3-2, 1-0-1 Big Ten) completed its road trip with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win over Maryland at Ludwig Field on Sunday afternoon.

For the second consecutive game, NU played extra time, but after settling for a tie against Rutgers on Friday night, the Huskers notched their first conference win of the season on Sunday. NU extends its unbeaten streak to three consecutive games, including a 2-1 win at No. 13 NC State on Sept. 9.

Maryland took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Darby Moore scored in the 26th minute for the Terrapins. In the second half, senior Savanah Uveges scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute off an assist from Faith Carter. It marked Uveges’ team-high fifth goal of the season.

The two teams went into overtime tied at 1-1, but in the 92nd minute, Carter found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. The senior’s header came off a corner kick assist from Brenna Ochoa. Ochoa leads the Huskers with four assists this season.

Nebraska’s offense outshot the Terps by a 17-5 margin for the game, including an 11-3 advantage in the second half. Carter led the Husker offense with five shots individually, three of which were shots on goal. The Huskers also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned one save to give her 154 career saves and passed Katie Wright (2003-04) for fifth place on NU’s career saves list.

Maryland falls to 3-4-3 with a 1-1-0 record in the Big Ten.

The Huskers continue Big Ten play next week against Indiana (Thursday at 7:05 p.m.) and Purdue (Sunday at 1:05 p.m.) at Hibner Stadium.
