Huskers Storm Past Beavers, 3-0

Lincoln, Neb. – For the second time this weekend, Nebraska shut out a Pac-12 opponent, as the Huskers routed Oregon State, 3-0, at Hibner Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers, who improve to 3-0-1 on the season, scored three times in the first half before both teams played a scoreless second half. The victory over the Beavers comes after NU defeated Oregon on Friday night by a 2-0 margin. Oregon State falls to 0-4 on the season.

In the 20th minute, junior Meg Brandt netted her first goal of the 2018 campaign and seventh goal of her career. Playing downwind in the first half, Brandt received a goal kick before breaking away from a Beaver defender and fired her shot into the back of the net to give NU a 1-0 lead.

Junior Sinclaire Miramontez tallied her first goal of the season in the 30th minute. Brenna Ochoa passed her free kick to Miramontez, who fired a shot from long-range that buzzed past the Beaver goalkeeper.

In the 33rd minute, the game went into a weather delay due to lightning in the area, which lasted 57 minutes. Nebraska struck one more time before halftime, as Savanah Uveges scored her team-high second goal this season. Oregon State committed a foul in the box, which gave Uveges a penalty kick opportunity in the 43rd minute. She converted the scoring chance to give NU a 3-0 lead.

Nebraska’s defense held Oregon State without a shot on goal, as junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder played 82 scoreless minutes before sophomore Mayte Corral made her Husker debut for the final eight minutes of the contest.

In the early game on Sunday at Hibner Stadium, 18th-ranked Kansas and Oregon played to a 1-1 draw. As a result, Nebraska was the only team to sweep the weekend.

Next weekend, the Huskers host Washington State on Friday night at Hibner Stadium before traveling to face Baylor on Sunday night. Tickets for the matchup with the Cougars are available at Huskers.com/Tickets or by calling 800-8-BIGRED.
