Huskers Shut Out Ducks, 2-0

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (2-0-1) continued its season-opening unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win over Oregon at Hibner Stadium on Friday night.

The Huskers took a 1-0 lead in the third minute on an own goal when Brenna Ochoa’s cross was kicked by an Oregon player past the Duck goalkeeper into the back of the net. After a scoreless rest of the first half, NU’s Natalie Cooke scored her first career goal in the 60th minute off an assist from Savanah Uveges.

Oregon, who was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, suffered its first loss of the season after a 2-0 start. Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned her first shutout of the season and 19th career complete-game shutout. Corder tallied three saves in 90 minutes of action to increase her career total to 138, ranked seventh in program history. She is three saves away from tying for sixth on NU’s list.

In addition to Corder, Sinclaire Miramontez, Caroline Buelt and Grace Brown each played the entire 90 minutes on Friday night. NU managed a 7-4 edge in shots and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Elyse Huber led the Husker offense with four shots individually, one of which was on goal.
