Norman, Okla. – The Nebraska soccer team extended its streak of season-opening wins to six games with a 2-1 triumph over Oklahoma at John Crain Field on Thursday night.
NU (1-0) struck twice in the final four minutes after trailing for the majority of the game. Sophomore Theresa Pujado netted her second career goal in the 87th minute on a header from Brenna Ochoa’s corner kick.
Ochoa, who led the 2017 team with six assists, wasn’t done yet. The junior from Omaha, Neb., scored the game-winning goal with a free kick from 20 yards out in the 88th minute.
Oklahoma (0-1) struck first in the 11th minute when Ivanna Rivas found the back of the net off a cross from Megan Reilly. Nebraska was held scoreless in the opening 45-minute period despite a 5-2 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. NU outshot OU by a 10-2 margin in the second half for a 15-4 advantage for the game. The Huskers held an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, making her 42nd start for the Huskers, earned two saves in 90 minutes of action, while surrendering one goal. She continues her climb up Nebraska’s career records list and now has 133 career saves, ranking seventh in the NU record book.
Nebraska now leads the all-time series against Oklahoma, 13-4-1, dating back to 1996.
