Huskers Begin Competition at Spec Towns Invite

Four Huskers were in action Friday at the Spec Towns Invitational at Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga.

Three of NU's four participants began competition in the decathlon, with Jared Seay, Cale Wagner and Cody Walton each setting personal bests in various events. Walton set a pair of outdoor personal bests in the long jump and the shot put, clearing both previous PRs by nearly a foot. He posted a mark of 47-4 1/2 (14.43m) in the shot put and 24-5 1/2 (7.45m) in the long jump, but did not start in the final two events of the day.

Seay set personal bests in the two running events Friday, as he posted times of 10.85 in the 100m and 49.06 in the 400m.

Wagner posted a PR in the shot put with a throw of 43-5 (13.23m).

After five of 10 events, Seay is sixth with 3,947 points, while Wagner is seventh with 3,893 points.

In the men's pole vault competition, junior Tyler Loontjer tied for fifth with a clearance of 16-0 3/4 (4.90m).

The Spec Towns Invitational decathlon continues Saturday at noon (CT) with the 110m hurdles, followed by the discus, pole vault (indoors), javelin and 1,500m. Nebraska was scheduled to host the Husker Spring Invitational on Saturday, but the meet was canceled earlier in the week due to forecasted weather.
