Freshman Ally Riley made her first-career start at designated player. It was her second-career start, as she has made one start at catcher earlier this season.

Madi Unzicker hit her first-career triple in the bottom of the second inning.

Ally Riley got her first-career RBIs against the Shockers after hitting a single in the second inning, which scored two runs.

Lincoln, Neb. -  The Nebraska softball team (10-6) fell to Wichita State (8-7) by a score of 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium in game one of a doubleheader. 

Kaylan Jablonski dropped to 5-5 on the year. She pitched 5.1 innings, gave up five runs on nine hits. She also had two strikeouts. Sydney McLeod pitched 1.2 innings of relief. She gave up three hits, no runs and recorded one strikeout. 

Bailey Lange improved to 4-4, pitching a complete game and giving up six hits and two runs. She also recorded nine strikeouts.

Ally Riley went 2-for-3, with two RBIs. Tristen Edwards, Madi Unzicker, Gina Metzler and Lexey Kneib each had one hit as well for the Huskers. 

The Shockers threatened in the second, putting two runners on with two outs after an error and a walk, but Jablonski got a strikeout to end the inning.

The Huskers took a 2-0 lead in the second. Madi Unzicker got a leadoff triple and Metzler reached second after an error on the first baseman. With two outs and runners on second and third, Riley singled down the right field line to score both runners and give the Huskers the lead.

The Shockers responded in the third, scoring four runs and sending 10 batters to the plate. A walk, a stolen base and a single up the middle scored the first run. Another single put runners on first and second, before Madison Perrigan hit a three-run homer to give Wichita State the lead. Three two-out singles loaded the bases, but the Huskers got out of the inning with a fly out to center field. 

In the fourth inning, a single, a bunt and another single scored one run for the Shockers. 

WSU extended its lead to 6-2 in the sixth with three singles. A walk loaded the bases for the Shockers with just one out, but the Huskers retired the next two batters to get out of the jam. 

The Huskers and the Shockers will play game two of the series this afternoon.
