Arlington, Texas- The top ranked Nebraska Bowling Team finished in seventh place at the Prairie View A&M Invitational after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament Sunday at the International Training and Research Center.
The Cornhuskers finished the weekend with a total pinfall of 11,092 and a record of 8-5.
Senior Kelly Belzeski finished in eighth place overall in the individual standings with a strong average of 220.2. Junior Meghan Straub finished 20th overall with her average of 212.5.
The Huskers played one traditional match Sunday morning against No. 25 Prairie View A&M, which the Huskers won, 976-790. The victory put them in sixth-place overall going in to Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament, in which each team played best-of-seven Baker matches.
In their first tournament match, Huskers fell to Stephen F. Austin, 4-2, sending Nebraska to play No. 10 Farleigh Dickinson for seventh place.
The Huskers swept Farleigh Dickenson 4-0 (245-217, 221-210, 267-163, 195-183) for the seventh-place finish.
The Huskers will return to the lanes next Friday through Sunday at the Crusader Classic in Chicago, Ill.
