Murray, Ky. -- The Nebraska rifle team fired its second-highest aggregate score of the season in a 4,672-4,710 loss to Murray State.
The Huskers set a new season-high smallbore score as a team, producing a mark of 2,324. Emily Cheramie tied her season-high score of 585 to lead the Huskers. Samantha Peterson was close behind after setting a new season-high score of 584. Kayla Gadeken notched a 580. Hannah Virga (575) and Nina Radulovic (574) added solid scores to round out the squadded members for Nebraska.
Samantha Peterson led Nebraska’s air rifle effort by tying her season-high score, contributing 591 to the team score of 2,348. Dacotah Faught and Kayla Gadeken brought in 589 and 587, respectively. Hannah Virga (581) and Nina Radulovic (580) kept the average up for the Huskers. Although not squadded, Elizabeth Ewert tied her second-best season high with a mark of 580.
Murray State brought in 2,343 in smallbore and 2,367 in air rifle to combine for an aggregate score of 4,710. Ben Estes led the Racers in smallbore with 589. Ivan Roe and Barbara Schlapfer each tacked on 585. Mackenzie Martin paced the team in air rifle, firing 593. Ivan Roe and Bobby Broadstreet both added 592 to the effort.
The match counted as the Huskers’ NCAA Qualifier match, hopefully placing them in the top eight teams nationwide and earning them a spot in the NCAA Championships. The results will be announced Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
Nebraska will travel to Morgantown, W. Va. next weekend to compete in the GARC Championships. Smallbore will be held on Saturday and air rifle will be held on Sunday.
