Huskers Win 12 Events at Nebraska Tune-Up

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Nebraska track and field team captured 12 event titles at the Nebraska Tune-Up in front of 1,367 spectators at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track on Friday. The meet was the final indoor home meet of the season for the Huskers as they get ready to head to the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Ohio next week. 

Maddie Holland was the pole vault winner with a new personal best of 13-8 1/2 (4.18m), which ranks seventh in Nebraska indoor history and is the No. 3 mark in the Big Ten this season. Elijah Lucy was the champion in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2 1/2 (7.07m). Raynesha Lewis took the title in the women's long jump at 19-6 3/4 (5.96m). Petra Luteran was the top collegiate finisher in the women's high jump at 5-9 3/4 (1.77m). Toni Tupper captured the shot put title with a throw of 53-3 3/4 (16.25m). 

On the track, Quashira McIntosh led the Huskers to a sweep of the top three spots in the women's 200 meters, running a season-best time of 24.36 to edge teammates Kierra Griggs (PR 24.62) and Chelsey Jones (24.64). Antoine Lloyd captured the men's 60-meter hurdles race with a time of 7.99. Lakayla Harris was the champion in the 60 meters with a time of 7.55.  

Michaela Peskova was the top finisher in the 600 meters with a time of 1:32.36, while Ty Moss won the men's race in 1:18.67. Mason Hericks won the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 21.82. Freshman Cody Mroczek, competing unattached, won the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 48.90.

Among other top Husker finishers, Jasmine Barge (8.43) was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles, while Makiyah Smallwood (8.18) was third in the men's 60-meter hurdles. McIntosh (7.65) took second in the 60 meters in addition to her win in the 200 meters. Malcolm White (6.88) was the runner-up in the men's 60 meters. Bailey Timmons took third in the mile with a personal-best 4:15.09. Ashleigh Carr set a 400-meters PR of 56.85 to finish third, and Emma Bresser (1:35.91) finished third in the 600 meters.

In the field, Shylia Riley was the runner-up in the women's long jump with a mark of 19-1 1/2 (5.83m). Isaiah Griffith was second in the triple jump at 47-10 1/2 (14.59m), and Jace Anderson placed third at 47-9 3/4 (14.57m). Nick Percy finished third in the weight throw at 68-9 3/4 (20.97m). Tyler Loontjer finished third in the pole vault after a season best of 17-2 3/4 (5.25m). 

One Devaney Center record was broken on Friday, as South Dakota's Chris Nilsen cleared a new PR of 19-0 1/4 (5.80m) to win the pole vault and break the old facility record of 18-8 1/4 (5.70m), set by both Derek Miles and Jeff Hartwig in 2002. Nilsen, the defending NCAA champion, extended his NCAA lead this season with his new best mark, which is the fifth-best mark in NCAA indoor history.

The Huskers head to the Big Ten Indoor Championships next week in Geneva, Ohio. Competition begins on Friday and Saturday at the SPIRE Institute at 9 a.m. (CT).
