Houston, Texas. – After two days of competition at the Track Kat Klash, the second-ranked Nebraska bowling team is in first place overall with a record of 8-2 and a total pinfall of 9,988, as the Cornhuskers went 4-1 in five traditional matches on Saturday.
The Huskers began their day with a victory over No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore by a score of 998-976. The Big Red then continued their strong play to beat No. 1 McKendree, 1,021-952.
In the third match of the day, the Huskers fell to No. 5 Sam Houston State, 982-946.
The Huskers rebounded quickly to beat Grambling State, 981-618.
Nebraska finished its day with a win, as the Huskers took down Louisiana Tech, 1,029-1,010.
Junior Meghan Straub finished second place individually with an average of 218.2. Senior Kelly Belzeski and sophomore Amanda Morgan also finished in the top-20 individually. Belzeski finished 13th with an average of 202, while Morgan took 15th after posting an average of 200.6.
Top-ranked McKendree is second overall with a total pinfall of 9,795. Arkansas State is third, while Maryland Eastern Shore rounds out the top four.
The Huskers will face McKendree in the opening round of the best-of-seven Baker format championship tournament on Sunday morning at 8:20 a.m. (CT). The winner of the match will go on to play in the championship final and the loser will go on to play the winner of the Arkansas State-Maryland Eastern Shore match for a spot in the final.
