The reigning Big Ten champion Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will have a dress rehearsal before the start of the 2018 season, with an intrasquad meet on Friday in Mabel Lee Hall (third floor) at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public and fans will get an inside look into the Huskers’ routines before the season begins in January.  The Huskers will test out their talent in Olympic order, beginning with vault, followed by uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise at the intrasquad meet. No official individual or team scores will be given out.

Schedule cards and posters will be available at the meet and the gymnasts will sign autographs after the meet.

Nebraska returns eight letter winners from last year’s team, which shared a Big Ten Championship with Michigan and finished seventh at last year’s national championships.

The Huskers welcome back All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-American Danielle Breen, All-American Sienna Crouse, as well as Big Ten Freshman of the Year Taylor Houchin. The Huskers are led by a strong senior class comprised of Breen on beam, outstanding performer on bars and beam Grace Williams, and bars leader Abbie Epperson.

Junior Sienna Crouse returns for the Huskers after earning first team All-American honors on vault in 2017, second team All-Big Ten honors, as well as All-Big Ten Championship team honors. Also in the junior class, Megan Schweihofer returns after being named second team All-Big Ten in 2017.

Four sophomores return for Nebraska, including Houchin, who also earned first team All-Big Ten honors and All-Big Ten Championship team honors. She is joined by redshirt sophomore Catelyn Orel, who returns to action for the Huskers after redshirting the 2017 season due to an Achilles injury. Sierra Hassel returns after providing clutch performances on beam for the Huskers down the stretch in 2017, as well as Academic All-Big Ten honoree Kelli Chung, who added depth in 2017.

Nebraska welcomes seven promising freshmen to Lincoln, Torri Hutchinson and Karley Hutchinson from Pearland, Texas; Makayla Curtis from Savannah, Ga.; Anika Dujakovich from Lenexa, Kan.; Kynsee Roby from Windsor Heights, Iowa; Rachel Thompson from Lincoln, Neb.; and Megan Verceles Carr from Los Gatos, Calif. The talented freshman class will look to provide depth for the Huskers and help them back to the NCAA championships in their first season at Nebraska. The Huskers graduated All-American Ashley Lambert and All-Big Ten performer Jennie Laeng.

The 2018 schedule is highlighted by five home meets, including the annual Masters Classic. Nebraska will first compete at home on Jan. 20 against Rutgers in the Devaney Center at 7 p.m. (CT). The Huskers will also host Michigan (Jan. 27), Minnesota (Feb. 3), Pittsburgh (Feb. 24), and Iowa State, Kent State and UCLA at the Masters Classic (March 4). NU’s road schedule features meets with defending NCAA champion Oklahoma, and NCAA Super Six qualifier Florida.

Nebraska will open its 2018 season on the road at Penn State on Jan. 13.
