Huskers Gear Up for NCAA Midwest Regional

The Nebraska cross country team will race this Friday at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional at the ISU Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa. The women’s 6K race will start at 10:45 a.m., and the men’s 10K race will follow at 11:45 a.m.

The Husker men are looking to build off a solid finish at the Big Ten Championships, where they placed ninth with 196. It was Nebraska's best finish since joining the conference in 2011. Junior Wyatt McGuire led the team with a 10th-place finish (24:24.1) and became the first member of the NU men's team to be named all-conference since 2001, as he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors. Senior Peter Spinks finished 37th (25:04.3), redshirt freshman Mark Freyhof finished 47th (25:13.3), freshman Bailey Timmons finished 51st (25:16.6) and sophomore Karson LeComte finished 54th (25:17.7).

The Husker women placed 12th at the conferece meet with 336 points. Senior Bonnie Smith led the women’s team and finished 66th with a time of 22:08.5. Freshman Erica Freyhof followed in 67th with a time of 22:08.7. Sophomore Rachel Brush finished 74th in 22:17.1, sophomore Elsa Forsberg finished 77th in 22:21.1 and senior Katrina Santiago finished 90th in 22:45.9.
