No. 14 Huskers Trounce Tigers, 3-0

Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 14 Nebraska soccer team (4-0-0) completed a home weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over Missouri at Hibner Stadium on Sunday night.

The Huskers handed Missouri its first loss of the season after the Tigers started 2-0-1. NU has outscored its four opponents this season by a combined score of 12-1.

Senior midfielder Haley Hanson scored twice, while junior Caroline Buelt added one goal. Hanson and the NU offense started where they left off on Friday by scoring in the second minute against Missouri. Sophomore Elyse Huber assisted Hanson’s goal, which gave Nebraska the 1-0 lead it held for the rest of the first half.

In the 65th minute, Buelt fired a shot that hit the crossbar and fell into the back of the net, giving the Huskers a 2-0 lead. It marked Buelt’s first goal of the season, and second of her career.

Hanson struck again in the 68th minute with her header off a Brenna Ochoa corner kick. Hanson has three goals this season and 13 for her career following Sunday night. She led an NU offense that produced 15 shots against the Tigers, six of which were on goal. Missouri managed eight shots, two of which were on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aubrei Corder earned her third shutout of the season in four appearances. Corder, who had two saves on Sunday night, has 14 career shutouts on 26 appearances.

The Huskers head West next weekend for a pair of matches in Pullman, Wash. NU faces Washington State on Friday, Sept. 1 at 9:30 p.m. (CT) before a meeting with Montana on Sunday, Sept. 3 at noon (CT).
