Castro Earns Third Consecutive Event Title in Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. --- For the third consecutive competition, junior Antonio Castro claimed an event title - this time on pommel horse with a score of 13.95 against Minnesota and the Minnesota Club Team on Saturday at Sports Pavilion. In addition, Connor Adamsick (floor) and Anton Stephenson (parallel bars) each claimed first place on their respective event. It was Adamsick's first-career event title.

As a team, the Huskers placed second with a score of 396.700. Minnesota claimed first with a score of 400.750 while the UMN Club Team took third with 218.150.

Nebraska started on pommel horse where Antonio Castro paved the way with an event-leading score of 13.95.  Anton Stephenson added support with 13.45. Jordan King notched 13.35, while Connor Adamsick earned 13.05. Kyle King and Travis Gollott each scored 12.30. The team finished with a team score of 66.10.

On still rings, Austin Epperson had a stellar routine, including a stuck landing, to lead the Huskers on the event with 13.95, tying his season high. Chris Stephenson and Heath Anderson pitched in 13.30 and 13.20, respectively. Jordan King earned 12.85. Alex Magsam notched 12.70, while Evan Hymanson scored 12.15. The team finished with a total score of 66.00.

The Huskers moved to floor where Adamsick led the way with 13.40. Anton Stephenson notched 13.00 for his routine, while Epperson earned 12.20. Jake Bonnay scored 11.90, while Chris Stephenson and Kyle King added scores of 11.55 and 11.30, respectively. As a team, NU earned 62.05.

The Big Red rotated to parallel bars next. Anton Stephenson (14.05), Daniel Leal (13.70), and Epperson (13.55) posted the top three scores for the Huskers. Kyle King and Chris Stephenson pitched in 12.65 and 12.55, respectively, while Hymanson added 11.55. As a team, the Huskers earned 66.50.

On high bar, NU was led by Bonnay (13.30) and Chris Stephenson (13.05). Coleman Tokar and Hymanson posted scores of 12.95 and 12.80, respectively. Castro pitched in a 12.40, while Leal earned 12.95. The team scored 65.05 on the event.

Nebraska finished the meet on vault, where the team posted it's highest vault score of the season so far with 71.00. Kyle King and Anton Stephenson paved the way with scores of 14.55 each, a season best for Stephenson. Josh Martin and Antonio Castro added scores of 14.10 and 14.00, while Leal and Magsam added 13.75 and 13.80, respectively.

Nebraska's only all-around competitor Chris Stephenson, finished with a score of 76.15. 

The Huskers continue their long stretch of away meets on Feb. 11 when the team travels to Berkeley, Calif., for a quad meet with California, Stanford and Arizona State. Competition is set to begin at 9:30 p.m.
