Huskers Third After Two Days At Warhawk Invitational

Kenosha, Wis. – The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team sits in third place with a pinfall of 10,289 after two days of competition at the Warhawk Invitational at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis. The Cornhuskers went 3-1 with a pinfall of 4,941 in five traditional matches (one bye) on Saturday.

NU will play No. 4 Vanderbilt in the opening round of Sunday’s championship tournament. Third-ranked Arkansas State leads the field heading into the final day with a pinfall of 10,643, while McKendree is second with a pinfall of 10,379.

The Huskers began the day with a 1,002-988 win over No. 14 Sacred Heart, before taking down No. 25 Elmhurst, 953-927.

Nebraska had a third-round bye, in which the Huskers fired a score of 1,033. Following the bye, the Big Red defeated second-ranked Stephen F. Austin, 985-886, in a matchup of the top two teams in the country.

NU’s only loss of the day came in the final match to McKendree, 1,033-968.

Meghan Straub led the way for the Huskers individually, as she finished 15th overall with an average of 209.6. Julia Bond finished 17th overall with an average of 209.2, while Briana Zabierek finished 23rd with an average of 200.

The Huskers’ match against Vanderbilt in the opening round of the Warhawk Invitational championship tournament will begin Sunday at 8 a.m. (CT). The winner of the NU-Vanderbilt match will move on to take on the loser of the Arkansas State-McKendree match for a spot in the final.
