Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska soccer team (11-5-3, 5-3-3 Big Ten) defeated Iowa on Senior Night, 1-0, at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Wednesday, which earned the Huskers a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
Senior Jaycie Johnson scored the lone goal of the night in the 50th minute off an assist from Haley Hanson. Johnson, who was honored on the field before the game along with fellow seniors Caroline Flynn, Sydney Miramontez and Courtney Claassen, scored her 11th goal this season. Johnson’s goal also marked the 42nd of her career, tied for the sixth-most in program history.
Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week and Defender of the Week, earned her fourth consecutive shutout and hasn’t allowed a goal in over 400 minutes. Corder has nine shutouts this season.
As a team, Nebraska outshot Iowa, 11-10, which included a 5-0 edge in shots on goal. The attendance was 1,385, which makes the season home attendance 11,745 in 10 games, the fifth-most in program history. NU’s average of 1,175 fans per game at Hibner Stadium is the third-most in program history.
The Huskers will travel to Evanston, Ill., to face No. 3 seed Northwestern in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday at 3 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
