LINCOLN, Nebraska –The Nebraska soccer team shut out Indiana 1-0 in its lone match of the weekend Friday night in front of 1,515 fans at Barbara Hibner Stadium.
The Huskers improved to 9-4-0 on the season and 3-2-0 in the Big Ten. Indiana fell to 5-7-1 and 2-3-0 in conference play.
Reigning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Jaycie Johnson headed in the lone goal off a corner kick delivered by senior Sydney Miramontez in the 53rd minute.
The header pushed Johnson to a team-leading nine goals on the season, while Miramontez picked up her team-leading sixth assist. Johnson scored her 40th career goal and is one goal shy of tying for seventh most in school history. The deciding goal was Johnson’s 15th career game-winner, which bumps the senior to a tie for second most in NU history.
True freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder recorded four saves and earned her fifth career shutout. The Huskers outshot the Hoosiers 10-6 and edged Indiana in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (4-1).
Caroline Flynn had five shots for the Huskers. Caroline Buelt, Sinclaire Miramontez, Sydney Miramontez and Alli Peterson started on the back line that helped record the Huskers' fifth shutout of the season.
Next up, the Huskers travel to Wisconsin for a Thursday night showdown at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6. NU also will play at Minnesota on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
