Huskers Fall at No. 16 Penn State, 2-1

University Park, Pa. – The Nebraska soccer team (8-4-0, 2-2-0 Big Ten) split its weekend road trip after falling to 16th-ranked Penn State, 2-1, at Jeffrey Field on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Jaycie Johnson scored the Huskers’ lone goal of the match in the 39th minute off assists from Alli Peterson and Haley Hanson. At the time, Johnson’s fourth goal of the weekend and eighth goal of the season tied the game 1-1. On Friday night, she earned a hat trick at Ohio State in NU’s 3-0 win.

Johnson has 39 career goals after this weekend, which ranks eighth in Husker history. She has scored each of her eight goals this season in the last seven games after being held scoreless in her first five matches of the 2016 campaign.

The Huskers outshot the Nittany Lions, 10-9, which included a 6-3 edge in the second half. The two teams were even, 4-4, in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Aubrei Corder collected two saves in 90 minutes of action.

Penn State’s Megan Schafer scored both goals for the Nittany Lions, who improved to 7-2-2 (3-0-1 Big Ten) this season. Schafer put PSU up 1-0 in the 16th minute when Salina Williford assisted her score from seven yards out. In the 69th minute, Schafer scored from six yards out off an assist from Nickolette Driesse.

The Huskers return home to host Indiana on Friday night at Hibner Stadium, starting at 7:05 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed live on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.
